Well, here goes nothing…

In my first post of the year, I said that this was going to be a year for new horizons and challenges. I can now tell you more about what I meant.

For the last decade and a half I’ve written code for a living. I currently lead a development team, and I’m one of several team leads in our office. It’s a comfortable job at a great company. And yet, in just a few short weeks, I throw that all out the window.

This year, I’m going to step way out of my comfort zone. I’m soon going to join a fledgling application security start-up where I’ll be working as a secure development consultant. I’m not giving up coding completely, but it will be just a part of what I’ll be doing.

One of my first things I’ll be doing in my new job is to speak at OWASP NZ Day 2015. It’s going to be my first public presentation ever, so I’m about equal parts excited and nervous right now. I just hope that I do ok, because screwing this up could make for a very awkward start to my new career.
